Which Christmas tree is right for you?

Which Christmas tree is right for you?

Find your kind of Christmas tree

Some people want a full, symmetrical tree. Others love a more natural outline. For some, it’s that familiar Christmas-tree scent that matters most.

There isn’t one perfect tree for everyone. There’s the tree that suits your home, your decorations and the way you celebrate.

Here’s our guide to choosing yours.

Premium Nordmann Fir

For a full, balanced Christmas-tree shape.

Our Premium Nordmann Firs are selected for their balanced branches and more symmetrical outline. Their soft, glossy needles and good needle retention make them a good choice if you want to keep needle clearing to a minimum.

They’re a lovely option for a traditional centrepiece, but remember to check the width as well as the height. A beautifully full tree can take up more room than you expect.

Choose Premium Nordmann if: you love a fuller, more even shape and soft foliage.

Good needle retention doesn’t mean no care is needed. Keep the cut base in water and position your tree away from heat.

Classic Nordmann Fir

Naturally individual. Beautifully Christmas.

Nature doesn’t grow every tree to the same outline. Our Classic Nordmann Firs have a more individual shape, perhaps with wider spaces between branches or a little less symmetry than our Premium range.

They come from the same fields, are cut at the same time and receive the same thoughtful care. They’re hand-picked for health and quality, and guaranteed straight.

Classic and Premium are two grades of Nordmann Fir, not different species. The difference is in the shape and price, not the care we put into your tree.

Choose Classic Nordmann if: you like a natural look, a little character and great value.

Your decorations. Nature’s handiwork.

Fraser Fir

Fresh fragrance, silvery-green foliage and strong branches.

Fraser Firs offer a different look from Nordmann, with distinctive silvery-green foliage, a pleasant fresh fragrance and strong branches for your decorations.

They also have excellent needle retention with proper watering.

Every tree has its own proportions, so don’t assume a particular variety will automatically fit a narrow space. Tell us your maximum width and we’ll help you choose.

Choose Fraser Fir if: you’d like a fragrant fir with distinctive foliage and good needle retention.

Traditional Norway spruce

For that unmistakable Christmas-tree scent.

Norway spruce is the traditional Christmas tree, loved for its rich green colour, naturally layered shape and familiar festive fragrance. Its branches display lights and decorations beautifully.

The honest difference is needle retention. Norway spruce sheds needles more readily than Nordmann, particularly in a warm room.

For best results, bring it indoors closer to Christmas, keep it well watered and choose a position away from radiators, fires and underfloor-heating hotspots.

Choose Norway spruce if: scent and tradition matter most, you put your tree up nearer Christmas and you don’t mind some extra sweeping.

If you decorate early and minimal needle drop is your priority, a Nordmann or Fraser Fir may suit you better.

Pot-grown Norway spruce

A living tree with roots, and different care needs.

Our pot-grown Norway spruce trees have been grown in their pots, with a root system intact. They aren’t cut trees placed in a container.

They need regular watering and a position away from heat. After Christmas, they can be replanted or kept growing in a suitable container, with repotting as needed to give the roots room.

Keeping a living tree healthy takes ongoing care. If you hope to grow yours on after Christmas, speak to us about where you plan to keep it.

Choose pot-grown if: you want a rooted tree and are prepared to care for it beyond the festive season.

Before you choose: three things to check

  • Maximum height: Measure your space, allowing room for your star or fairy.

  • Maximum width: Leave room for doors to open and people to walk past.

  • Stand opening: For cut trees, check the maximum trunk diameter your stand can take.

We don’t shave trunks to fit narrow stands, and we don’t recommend doing it at home. If the stand and tree aren’t a suitable match, we’ll suggest an alternative.
